How We Review Products

Cat Fortress compares products according to the cat, household and installation problem they are meant to solve. We do not treat a popular listing or high star rating as proof that a product suits every home.
Our research process
Define the use case. We start with the reader’s practical need: a large cat, limited floor space, senior accessibility, several cats, an outdoor enclosure or a smart feeding problem.
Build a candidate list. We look for relevant products with identifiable models, usable specifications and realistic availability. Commercial commission is not a requirement for inclusion.
Check primary information. We prioritize manufacturer pages, manuals, assembly instructions and support information, then compare these with current retailer listings.
Compare meaningful criteria. Dimensions, access, stability, cleaning, replacement parts, installation and ongoing costs are weighed according to the use case.
State the trade-offs. Recommendations should explain who a product is for, who should avoid it and which important information remains uncertain.
Review and update. We check links, material claims and major availability changes when content is revised.
What we evaluate
Fit and usable spacePlatform, opening, bed and enclosure dimensions matter more than a product’s overall height or marketing category.
Stability and constructionBase size, mounting method, materials, joints and the distribution of usable levels are considered.
Cat accessibilityStep spacing, jump height, entrances and routes are assessed for kittens, senior cats, large cats and multi-cat movement.
MaintenanceWe look at removable fabrics, washable parts, filter or liner replacement, scratch-surface wear and cleaning access.
Installation and home fitAssembly, wall type, floor footprint, weather exposure, power, Wi-Fi and placement constraints can change the recommendation.
Value over timeWe consider function, durability signals, replacement consumables and practical alternatives rather than simply choosing the lowest listed price.
Smart-product reliabilityFor connected products we consider app dependence, connectivity, power-loss behaviour, subscriptions and whether core functions remain usable.
Availability and variantsColours, sizes and model revisions may share a listing. Readers should confirm the exact local variant before ordering.
Research-based versus hands-on
Unless an article explicitly states that a product was physically used or tested, the comparison is research-based. We do not invent first-hand observations, long-term durability findings or measurements that are not supported by a cited or identifiable source.
Prices and retailer information
Prices, delivery, seller identity and availability change frequently and differ by country. Cat Fortress generally avoids presenting a changing price as a permanent fact. Affiliate links may redirect to a local Amazon store or an alternative result, so the final product and seller must always be checked.
Ratings and “best” labels
We favour clear use-case conclusions over artificial precision. A “best” label means the strongest fit among the products considered for that particular need—not a guarantee that it is best for every cat or home.
Safety and veterinary limits
Readers should follow manufacturer instructions and check wall fixings, enclosure security, weight guidance, electrical safety and suitability for their own cat. Health or behaviour concerns should be discussed with an appropriate qualified professional.
